Breast Cancer Awareness

Oct 1, 2025

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month — a time to champion early detection, support those impacted, share resources with our community, and remind staff of helpful benefits available to them.

Why It Matters
  • 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime; early screening can dramatically improve outcomes.

  • Men can also be affected, so awareness and self-advocacy are important for everyone.

  • Navigating a complex diagnosis or treatment plan can be overwhelming — having expert support matters.

On Lok’s Private Health Management (PHM) Benefit — Here to Help You

As part of our commitment to employee wellbeing, On Lok has partnered with Private Health Management (PHM) to provide a supplemental benefit specially designed to support members (and eligible dependents) when facing serious or complex medical conditions.

Here’s what you should know:
What PHM does
  • Acts as a guidance and coordination service that works alongside your existing healthcare providers.

  • Helps you and your care team with diagnostic clarity, reviewing medical records, connecting with top specialists and expert opinions, and refining treatment plans.

  • Supports ongoing monitoring, side-effect management, and surveillance (e.g. follow-ups, recurrence checks) for complex conditions including cancer.

Who is eligible
  • You, your spouse, registered domestic partner, and dependents under 26 may access this benefit. (Children under 18 require a consent form from an adult.)

  • Pre-registration is required so PHM has permission to engage, but in urgent circumstances you may contact PHM directly.

Important points
  • PHM is supplemental — it does not replace your primary care provider or the relationships you currently have with your physicians.

  • Standard medical visits (PCP, urgent care, hospital) still follow your usual health plan coverage.

If you ever receive a diagnosis (especially complex, chronic, or cancer-related) and feel unsure of next steps, PHM is a resource you can turn to — they bring clinical depth, logistical support, and access to expert networks to help you make informed decisions with confidence.

Mammograms are recommended for women age 40 and above, but people of all ages should see their doctor if they have a breast lump, breast pain, unexpected nipple discharge or skin changes over the breast.
What You Can Do
  • Schedule your screening: If you’re due (or not sure), contact your healthcare provider.

  • Learn & share: Refresh your knowledge on signs, risk factors, and resources (see links below).

  • Lean on PHM if needed: If you or a loved one receives a difficult diagnosis, remember PHM is part of your benefits toolkit — you don’t have to navigate it alone.

  • Be there for one another: Support colleagues going through health challenges with empathy and flexibility.
